Assessment
Student Learning
As this class was a bit of a challenge we had to keep
them moving and active and doing something new. If we spent too much
time refining and such, we would
have lost them and all control.
These students were quite engaged in the dance and the idea of being
video taped was a good incentive for them. Because the video was such a
great thing for them, I would have the students watch the videos in
class and assess themselves
based on some criteria that has been set.
A checklist that focused on steady beat, cooperation, effort, and
creativity could be used for a regular classroom, but in a class such
as this, there is no time to sit back and observe, you have to be right
in there. Then again, the videos could be used for the teacher to
assess as well.
After I created the video, I had a chance to watch it with the class.
They
were very excited to see themselves and they had nice comments for the
other students. They asked questions of their peers as to what they
thought of
their
performance.
