Lesson Eight




Objectives:

Students will cooperate in groups of four to create and teach a simple cooperative game (2 classes to create/2 to play and peer assess)


Materials:

Variety of apparatus, hoops, markers, balls, paddles, etc. all for use by the students if they choose.


Introduction:

Run a quick Crows and Cranes game for warm up

Refresh what they have been working on

Have students meet at stations to set up


Activities: Invented Games by Dr.Hopper


The group that played last class will teach this class. Their partner group will participate and offer some hints and hurrahs. The students will use these comments to write a short reflection on their experience creating a game and playing their classmates game.


Conclusion:


Students can start a group brainstorm about their experience to fuel ideas for individual reflections.

 

Lesson One




Materials:

6 bean bags

36 cones

36 pylons

6-red pinies

6-blue pinies

6- yellow pinies

6- green pinies

whistle


Movement tasks/management:

Practice base

Looking for open space

Running/ chasing / guarding

Making lots of teams


Extensions:

IT: -Larger area/goals

Runners: -Once you leave safe zone no return.

-Score 2 times, you can no longer score


Simplify:

IT: -smaller goals/area

Runners:    -“lifes”


Refinements:

-strategies, finding open space, talking with team mates

-planning

-deeking (Dr. Hoppers dodge ball)


Structure:

Set expectation:  Whistle means hustle in and bring equipment.


Fruit basket: Each student is given a fruit name, a corresponding colour spot.

Call a fruit name, run to trade spaces. Student who is left without a spot calls next fruit. Base to stop.


Activity 1: Crows and Cranes

Partner up, line up facing your partner

Crane left, crow right     Run into “safe zone” and stop using base

Two rounds, shift on person down.  Odd number one judge, judge joins, and others shift. Make groups of 6 while in rows (easy)


Activity 2: Fresher


Come in: What is working? What is challenging? How can your team be more effective? Let groups strategize before starting another game.


Come in: how was that different, how did you communicate?


Conclusion

Clean up equipment

Come in: What did we practice today? Base, finding open space, team work.
