Follow the Bean Bag


Aim

Toss the bean bag when partner is not close enough to catch it.

Rules

1) Leader looks for open spaces

2) Bean bag must be thrown above head height

3) Avoid other runners

Organization and Set up

- In pairs, have the students retrieve a bean bag and find space.

- Have one person follow the other.

- When the teacher blows the whistle, the leader should make a quick stop and pass the bean bag straight over their head.

-If the follower catches the bean bag, they now become the leader.

- Start off by walking and progress to running

- Teacher should start by letting the students know when you are going to blow the whistle (i.e. “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannd stop”, then blow whistle) then progress to just blowing the whistle and finally have the students just stop and start as they please. 

- Assign one member of each group to retrieve sending and receiving equipment

- How did you use the area to your advantage?

- What was the effect of changing direction?

- How did you fool your partner?

- What does this have to do with passing?

Aim

To successfully pass and receive the puck with a partner

Organization and Set up

- Divide class into pairs

- Students will start with the first game on the task sheet progress to the next as skill level permits

- Assign one member of each group to retrieve sending and receiving equipment


Key Questions

- What made it difficult to make passes through the cones?
- What made it difficult to make passes over the spot?

- What were some problems that you had making 5 consecutive passes?

- What can do to change the game so you can be successful?

- Was making longer or shorter passing harder? Why?

Aim

To score a goal by shooting the puck through your opponent’s marked goal

Rules

  1. 1)Three passes before you can score

  2. 2)If the puck goes out of bounds it is given to the other team.

  3. 3)Scoring is achieved by making three passes then passing through the marked goal area.

- Divide the class into groups of 3.

- Have them play a mini game of floor hockey.

- Assign one member of each group to retrieve sending and receiving equipment


Possible Modifications

- Place a cone as the goal target

- More or less passes needed before you can score

- What are some techniques you could use to protect your ball from others?

- How can you effectively defend your goal and gain possession of the ball?
