Organizational Strategies
- Equipment
- equipment will be brought
out by teachers discretion
- students will be assigned
to get the equipment (ex 1's go get equipment 2's find open space)
- old equipment will be brought
back before new equipment is handed out
- equipment will be brought
back in an orderly and organized fashion (no throwing balls in bin and
hope they end up there)
- Teaching Space
- utilize as much space possible
as needed
- use grids every time when
needed (helps for spacing of students)
- always have grids facing
same way
- provide students with enough
space as possible to perform effectively in a safe environment
- ALWAYS provide a safe environment
- always make sure students
are in a close enough proximity where they are always able to hear the
teacher
- use space effectively and
efficiently
- Support materials
- always take full advantage
of the materials that are available
- always use a grid when needed
(helps for organization & gives students boundaries)
- always take full advantage
of using demo's when needed preferably using a variety of students when
possible
- Demonstrations
- when bringing students in
always have them form a semi-circle around you
- if possible have students
facing the bleachers so there is no temptation for distraction
- when possible use student
to perform demo providing they are able to perform the demo clear enough
that shows your objectives
- Assessment
- Assessing the outcome (territory
- net/wall - field - or target games)
- Principles of play ( Game
involvement, 4 R's)
- Tactical Awareness (Movement
off-the-ball, Skill selection, Skill execution)
- Improvement of game performance
- How the student develops
their own criteria for what constitutes effective performance (Griffin,Mitchell,Oslin-224)
- Have students assess teachers
performance when not participating, in order to keep them involved
in the class (Hopper)
- assessment should take into
consideration enjoyment, interest, and competence level (did the students
have fun, are they interested in learning more about the game, and do
they show competence in that particular game/sport)
(Jen and Ryan, 2001)
