Sending
Phase 1 - Positioning
-strong base position
-eyes on the target
-top hand halfway up the stick
-bottom hand at the bottom
-feet shoulder width apart
Phase 2 - Preparing to Shoot
-weight shifts to back foot
-stick gets cocked back
-hips and shoulders turn
to generate power
Phase 3 - Transferring Power
- weight shifts to front foot
-hips and shoulders turn to
become open to the target
-stick comes down in a
“hammer” motion
Phase 4 - Hitting the Target
- weight is all on front foot
-stick follows through to
point at the target
-return to a proper base
position
Bio-mechanical Principles for Sending
1. Prep: Stance side on to the direction of the throw, and somewhat open. Head of the stick is extended away from the target; the open pocket faces the direction of throw. Weight is evenly distributed.
2. Wind-Up: Weight is transferred to the back foot, the knees are bent slightly more, the arms, upper body, and hips wind back away from the target.
3. Force: Step toward the target with the foot opposite the top hand, transferring weight to the front foot. The top hand pushes quickly toward the target; the bottom hand stays relatively still and close to the body. As the ball is thrown, the hips, then shoulders, rotate toward the target. Finish almost front on to the target.
4. Recovery: Bring the stick back in and up and stagger feet (assume a base position) to prepare to read, respond, and react to the outcome.
