Lesson 1 - Triangle Game

Tactical Problem:   Setting up to attack.
Skill Development :   Accurate forearm pass to the setter in game play.
  Setters open up to play on their side of the court.

Teaching Points

Tactic

  • Move body behind ball.
  • Return to base position
  • Anticipate direction of pass

Skill

  • Lift with legs.
  • Shrug shoulders.
  • Arms straight.

Organizational Points

  • Groups of three students.
  • Can fit four groups on one court.
  • Tosser throws to passer, passer forearm passes to setter, setter throws to tosser.
  • Vary by moving passer to different back row positions.
  • Rotate after three passes.

Questions:

Q: How do you perform the the forearm pass?
A: Lift with the legs, flat platform.

Q: Where do you pass the ball to?
A: The setter.

Q: Why do you pass the ball to the setter?
A: So the setter can set up the attack.
