Lesson 1 Tactical Problem - Setting up to Attack

Lesson focus   :   Forearm pass and setter open up.
Skill objective :   Accurate forearm pass to the setter in game play.
  Setters open up to play on their side of the court.


Introductory task/game:

1.  The "Castle" Game

Skill/Concept development tasks/games:

1.  Triangle Drill

Culminating Game:   3 vs. 3

  • 1/2 court long.
  • Initiate from a free ball (Underhand toss).
  • Alternate free ball.
  • Rotate after each rally.
  • Use up to 3 hits on a side.
  • Setter is already in correct position.

Lesson 2 Tactical Problem -  Setting up to Attack

Lesson focus   :   Transition to Attack
Skill objective :

  Accurate forearm pass to setter.
  Setter opens up and sets.
  Successful transition from passer to attacker.

 

Introductory task/game:

1.  3 on 3 Over Space Game

Skill/Concept development tasks/games:

1.  Groups of 3, Transition from defence to offence with Passer.

Culminating Game:  3 vs. 3

  • 1/2 court long.
  • Initiate from a free ball (Underhand toss).
  • Alternate free ball.
  • Rotate after each rally.
  • Use up to 3 hits on a side.
  • Setter is already in correct position.
  • Bonus point for a pass-set-hit combination.

Lesson 3 Tactical Problem - Winning the point

Lesson focus   :   Spike approach
Skill objective :   Quick transition off the net to allow time for a proper spike approach.

Introductory task/game:

1. 3 vs. 3

Skill/Concept development tasks/games:

1. Using the spike approach

Culminating Game: 3 vs. 3

  • 1/2 court long.
  • Initiate from a free ball (Underhand toss).
  • Alternate free ball.
  • Rotate after each rally.
  • Use up to 3 hits on a side.
  • Setter is already in correct position.
  • Bonus point for a pass-set-hit combination.

Lesson focus   :   Set to attack
Skill objective :   Accurate setting and successful transition off the approach to attack.

1.  Practice hitting a set.
