AssessmentStudents will be responsible for material covered in the lectures, the relevant chapters of the textbook, and suggested assignments. You are responsible for adhering to the academic regulations of the University of Victoria, particularly with regard to scholarly integrity. Please review the Academic Regulations section of the University Calendar with particular attention to the section of Plagiarism and Cheating (pp 33-34). Weights for these components and procedures regarding missed examinations are provided in the Grading section. Midterm TestsMidterm tests will take place outside of regular class time. As Chem 101 labs run Mon to Thurs. evenings, midterms will be on Fridays after regular classes. We have chosen the 5-6 PM slot so as to avoid as many potential conflicts as possible. A few students will have a Physics lab that run to 5:30 PM. These students should identify themselves to their instructors prior to the midterm. They will be given permission to start late up to 5:30 PM. Midterm Test Schedule
Locations
You must bring your student ID for both midterm tests. Place it on a top corner of the desk such that it will be readily visible to the invigilator for the entire duration of the test. Midterm tests will be composed of a combination of multiple choice-type
questions and written answer questions. Midterm test and quiz due dates
may be altered at the Course Coordinator’s discretion. QuizzesQuizzes will be done on-line using the WebCT/Blackboard course management system supported at UVic. You must obtain a free computer account (Netlink ID) to use the WebCT/Blackboard system. Instructions for obtaining a Netlink ID and for doing the on-line quizzes are provided on separate pages linked here. There will be an ungraded practice quiz available early in the term. Although you may complete suggested homework assignments with your study group, you are expected to work the on-line quizzes individually. There are 9 on-line quizzes. You are required to complete them according to this schedule:
It is to your advantage to do the quizzes on a weekly basis rather than attempt them near the deadline. Missed on-line quizzes will count as zero. There will be no extensions of deadlines for individuals. Final ExamThe final examination will be scheduled by the Office of the Administrative Registrar during the examination period, December 7 to December 21, 2007. You should not make end of term travel plans prior to the publication of the final examination schedule, usually in early October. Requests for early exams will not be granted. © Department of Chemistry, University of Victoria. Updated 29 August, 2007. |
