Grading

The course components will be weighted as follows:

Two (2) midterm tests
20 %
Nine (9) quizzes
4.5 %
Laboratory Work
33 %
Final Examination
42.5 %

A passing mark of 50% for the laboratory component as well as completion and grading of 70% of the laboratory work is required to pass the course.

A passing mark (approximately 50%) for the total of final examination, midterm tests and quiz component is required to pass the course.

All midterm marks count toward the final grade with no exceptions. Therefore students must work throughout the course and be rewarded for such. Regular review of the material has proven to be the best strategy for success in this course.

Missed term tests or final examination will count as zero in the grade calculation unless a medical or other satisfactory reason is provided in writing.

  • Missed term test. Documentation should be provided to your instructor within two weeks of the date of the test. If the documentation is accepted, the weight of the final examination will be increased to account for the midterm test value. There will be no make-up midterm tests.
  • Missed final examination. The appropriate documentation should be submitted with a "Request for Academic Concession" to the Undergraduate Records Office as described in the University Calendar.

Letter grades will be derived from the final composite score. Conversion of numerical scores to letter grades will be based on the following approximate scale:

90-100 A+, 85-89 A, 80-84 A-, 75-79 B+, 70-74 B, 65-69 C+, 55-59 C, 50-54 D, <50 F
