How to Study Chemistry (taken from Dr. A.J. Pribula at Towson University)
- Take responsibility for your own learning.
- Read ahead of class.
- Do the assigned problems.
- Go to class.
- Take notes, review and complete them soon after the class.
- Write down the announcements, due dates and the like.
- Use all the resources: lecture, text, website, on-line quizzes, lab, drop-in centre.
- Get questions answered as soon as you have them.
- Follow directions carefully.
- Keep current in your studying.
Study skills
- Develop an effective set for your personal learning style.
- Manage your time.
- Rest.
- Find a good place to study.
- Read effectively – actively try to get the information and connect it to what you know, seek out other texts (in Library Reading Room).
- Practice – sharpen your math skills so math is not in the math of learning.
- Look for patterns and generalities.
- Form a study group.
- Be wise and selective about what needs to be memorized.
