Florian Schön

Florian grew up in Hettenleidelheim, Germany and studied chemistry with a specialization on catalysis at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. In 2016, he completed his diploma thesis (equivalent to MSc) in the Thiel group by establishing a new route for the synthesis of heterobimetallic transition metal complexes via roll-over cyclometallation. He then undertook his PhD at the University of Heidelberg under the supervision of Prof. Himmel. There, he investigated copper containing enzyme-model complexes for the dioxygen activation as well as metal-free boron-boron bond activation processes using electron rich guanidine ligands. After he completed his PhD in 2020, he joined the Herres-Pawlis group at the RWTH Aachen University where he was involved in the national digitalization project NFDI4Chem to tackle the research data management in the chemical research. Florian joined the Manners group in 2021 as a Feodor-Lynen Postdoctoral Fellow (AvH), focusing on the synthesis of main-group polymers with dehydropolymerization reactions using metal-ligand cooperativity. In his spare time, he enjoys playing table tennis, windsurfing, cooking, gaming, and hiking in the nature.
