Harvey MacKenzie

Harvey was born and raised in Prince Edward Island Canada, where he completed his undergraduate studies in chemistry at the University of Prince Edward Island. After finishing his undergraduate degree, he moved to the opposite end of the country to begin working on his MSc under the supervision of Dr Derek Gates at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. His work with Professor Gates focused on the synthesis of phosphorus-containing macromolecules and their application as stimuli responsive fluorescent sensors. Upon completion of his MSc he pursued a career in teaching and worked as a laboratory instructor in the Department of Chemistry at Langara College. After several years of teaching at Langara and skiing weekends in Whistler he decided to return to academia and pursue his PhD in the Manners group at the University of Victoria. His PhD focuses on the development of inorganic materials and CDSA-derived nanomaterials towards high quality electronic devices. In his spare time Harvey enjoys skiing, exploring the wilderness, board game nights and going to the pub with friends after a hard day in the lab.
