Marcus was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and started his research career at the University of Calgary under the guidance of Thomas Baumgartner where he optimized phosphorus-containing molecules for application in emerging battery technologies. He then joined the group of Gregory Welch where he synthesized compounds for use in heavy-metal-free solar cells and transistors. Upon graduating in 2018 with a B.Sc. (Hon.), he moved to Victoria to pursue a PhD in the Manners group researching pi-conjugated micelles for electronic device applications. In his spare time, he enjoys snowboarding and hiking.
