Laura and Breanne's Creative Dance Page

This website contains the breakdown of a creative dance developed based on the imagery idea of hide and seek.  The music used for this creative dance is Trépak (or the Russian Dance from the Nutcracker Suite).  The dance was developed using imagery, phrases of a piece of music, action words and a task progression.  The students' movements were refined using Laban's movement concepts (Wall and Murray, 1994).

Click here to view Laban's movement framework.

The creative movement described on this website was taught to a group of 20 grade one students at Hillcrest Elementary and was modified to fit into 4 lessons.  Click here to view the student responses to this experience.

This website breaks the dance down based on the connection to the BC IRP for PE (K - 7),  the BC IRP for Fine Arts (dance) (K-7), analysis of the dance (Boorman, 1973), the dance task progression broken down into sections, management suggestions from teaching the dance, assessment ideas and finally reflections from the teachers teaching the content.

Here is a teacher Task Progression for the dance.
