Deadlines for the Science Fair

BEFORE you start your project for the Science Fair note the following:

  • Check the ethics guidelines and have your teacher confirm that all conditions are satisfied.
  • If you are home-schooled you must contact rmmarx@uvic.ca
  • ALL projects that involve humans, animals or microorganisms require an Ethics review.
    The signed Ethics review must be submitted by email to rmmarx@uvic by Thursday, January 22, 2026.
  • If your project involves other people you must follow all COVID-19 protocols or your project will be disqualified.
 
Important Dates
January 22 Registration opens
January 22 Deadline for making a Request for Ethics Approval
All projects that involve humans, animals or microorganisms require an Ethics Approval.
Get this BEFORE you start your project.

NOTE THIS IMPORTANT DATE
February 26 Deadline for Project Registration
This includes: student info, project info – titles, etc.
March 12 Deadline for $35 Fee Payment and Submission of Complete Project Package
Email your completed Registration Package to rmmarx@uvic.ca
*** Include : Student’s “lastname_firstname + School name“ in the subject line of the email
February 23 Registration for judging opens:
April 1 Registration for judging ends:
April 12 Fair opens – Round 1 Judging in the morning
Round 2 and Specialty judging in the afternoon
Fair open to the public in the afternoon
April 13 Fair open to Public and School Tours
Awards Ceremony – Winners announced!

The complete package includes:
  • Project-Board Summary Report + cover page with Project Title, Student(s) name and School name
  • Signed declaration form(s) from the VIRSF Student Registration Page
  • Registration fee of $35 paid via the VIRSF Canada Helps link
    In the payment “Write a private message…” box include ” name of student(s) and the school name

THESE ARE FIRM DEADLINES – NO EXCEPTIONS
No project will be allowed in the fair unless your registrations, information package and fees are complete by the stated deadlines.
