In physical education, most children would rather play than practice (Hopper et al, 2001). We believe in the importance of setting students up for success while continually keeping them engaged in the lesson. By prioritizing a student’s concept of a game before working on skill execution we can accomplish this (Hopper et al, 2001). As such, we incorporated the TGFU approach (Teaching Games For Understanding) throughout out our lesson plans. TGFU focuses on guided discovery and using smaller modified games that represent the adult game form.
