LEARNING OUTCOMEs of lesson 3
-Learn proper mechanics of the jump shot
- Move into space to generate scoring opportunities.
- Square to the basket when executing the shot. 
- Athletic body position when executing a jump shot.
EQUIPMENT:  30 basketballs, 12 cones Warm up
Simon Says aim...
1.	Students are spread out on the floor, jogging in different directions.
2.	3 progressions of the jump shot will be executed: body position, set position and follow through.
3.	The teacher will blow his whistle and will shout out one of the progressions, the students will freeze and execute the appropriate progression. 

The objective of this warm-up is to work on the fundamentals of the jump shot and work on moving into space to elude opponents.

Progressions
1.	Students will begin with no object.
2.	Students will be given a basketball 
(no dribble).
3. Student will dribble and stop on command and execute progression. 

Teaching Points
1.	Feet should be shoulder width apart, one foot is ahead of the other, with knees slightly bent, shoulders square to desired target (Body positioning).
2.	In the (set position) it’s important to keep the ball in front of your head.
3.	The elbow of the shooting arm should be in a slightly bent 
      (set position).
4.   Release the ball from your fingertips              
            just before you complete your jumping  
            action (follow through).
      5.   The follow-through with your hand 
            should mimic putting your hand in a 
      cookie jar (follow through).

Organization
-The boundaries of the activity will take place in a full court setting. 
- Students will freeze on command and perform the desired progression. 
Skill Development- Concept 1
Spot Shooting aim....
1.         Student will begin at the top of the three point line (right side).
2.         Student will dribble towards the basket and will stop 8 feet away from the hoop.
3.	  Student will execute a jump shot off the backboard and retrieve their rebound. 

The objective of this drill is to work on the fundamentals of the jump shot in a controlled setting. Proper mechanics will be a focal point. 
Progressions
1.	Students will begin from the ride side of the perimeter (right hand dribble). 
2.	Students will switch to the left side of the perimeter (left hand dribble). 
3.	Increase the distance of the jump shot.

Teaching Points
1.	It’s important that your body is square to the basket when executing a jump shot. 
2.	When following through ensure your hand is positioned in the cookie jar. 
3.	Dribble with the appropriate hand when driving towards the basket. 

Organization
-There is six hoops positioned in the gym and there will be 5 students positioned on each hoop. 
- There will be 2 cones placed to indicate the right driving lane and the left which will be placed around the perimeter of the 3 point line. Skill Development- Concept 2
Shooting under pressure aim...
1.	Start with two players; one with a basketball under the basket and one in his shooting range.
2.	Player 1 (with the ball) makes a pass to player 2 and charges at the player to defend against the shot. 
3.	Player 2 must catch the ball in proper shooting position, square to the basket and shoot the jump shot. 

The objective of this drill is taking a jump shot under pressure and to move into space to generate a solid scoring opportunity. 

Progressions
1.	Defender is passive
2.	Drill can be converted into 2-1 situation.
3.	Offensive player must work on driving to the left and right.
4.	Defender is aggressive

Teaching Points
1.	Penetrate the basket to elude your defender.
2.	Take the jump shot when you are balanced and square to the basket.
3.	Be aware of the surrounding space and the position of your defender. 
4.	Make quick cuts to the basket to elude your defender.

Organization
-This drill will occupy 5 basketball hoops, with groups of six on each basket. 
- 3 players (offense) will be placed on the perimeter of the 3 point line and 3 other players (defense) will be placed underneath the basket. 
- Players rotate from offense to defense on each shot. Partners will keep tract of the points they receive.
- 2 points for a basket and 1 point for defensive stop. 
Culminating Activity
Continuous 3 on 3 aim...
1.	Players get into 3 lines at the half line facing the basket.
2.	One line is in the middle and the other 2 out wide on the sides and the first player from each line steps out to be on defense. The next 3 players will be on offense and attack the basket 3 on 3.
3.	The offense will try to score by making cuts and moving into space. 

The objective of this drill is to culminate and execute all skills by taking advantage of the open space to create offensive opportunities. 
Progressions
1.	If ability is low, drill can be transferred to 
3-2 situation.
2. Defenders are passive to allow the offense to generate offensive opportunities. 
3. Defenders are aggressive.
4. Manipulate skills. Ex. Only score by jump shot, everyone must touch the ball before shooting, chess pass only. 

Teaching Points
1.	Moving into space is an effective way to generate scoring opportunities. 
2.	Changing speeds and direction is an effective way to elude defenders.
3.	Support your team-mates to provide space. 
4.	Make L cuts and V cuts to generate space. 
Organization
-This activity will consist of 2 groups of 15 on each half. 
-The players who were just on offense must turn and defend the new offensive team. You keep alternating from offense to defense. 
- After playing defense you run wide off the court and get back into the lines at half court.
