Learning Outcomes for lesson 4
- Executing a lay-up with defensive pressure by moving into space
- Execute the proper foot work of the right and left hand lay-up.
Equipment: 30 basketballs, 12 cones Warm up
Freeze Tag aim...
1.	Two students will be designated to tag the rest of the class.
2.	If the students get tagged they lie down on the ground on their stomach and freeze.
3.	To unfreeze a student you must execute the proper foot work of a right or left handed lay-up by jumping over the students who are frozen. 

The objective of this drill is to elude defenders in a fast break scenario and execute the proper footwork of a left or right handed lay-up.

Progressions
1. Increase or decrease size of the grit
2. Begin with the footwork execution of the right hand lay-up.
3. Progress to the footwork execution of the left hand lay-up. 

Teaching Points 
1. Students must move into space to elude defenders. 
2. When executing a lay-up its a two foot sequence. 
3. Executing a right hand lay-up entails stepping with your right foot forward and jumping off your left foot.
4. Executing a left hand lay-up entails stepping with your left foot forward and jumping off your right foot. 

Organization 
- The students will occupy the entire court. 
- Students who step out of bounds will become automatically frozen.
- There will be two students marked as defenders. Skill Development- Concept 1
2 line lay-up drill aim...
1.	2 lines will be formed; one shooter and one player retrieving rebounds. 
2.	The shooter will drive the lane and attempt a lay up.
3.	The defensive player will retrieve the ball and switch roles. 

The objective of this drill is to work on executing lay-ups from the left and right hand side and work on rebounding. 

Progressions
1. Start with the right handed lay-up at a slow pace to exaggerate the footwork. 
2. Increase the speed at comfortable pace.
3. Progress to the left handed lay-up at a slow pace. 
4. Increase the speed to execute lay-up 
5. Rebounder can applies defensive pressure. 

Teaching Points
- Executing a lay-up is a two step sequence
- When executing a  lay-up its important to jump off  the appropriate foot to protect the ball from defenders.
- When executing a right hand lay-up dribble with your right hand.
- When executing a left hand lay-up dribble with your left hand to shield the ball. 

Organization
- There will be two lines positioned at the top of the 3 point line. 
- 3 students in each line (6 total)
-5 hoops will be occupied.
Culminating Activity Speed lay-ups aim...
1.	Students will be split into 6 groups of 5 and each group will positioned by a basket. 
2.	One player from each group of five will drive the hoop from the top of the 3 point perimeter and execute a lay-up.
3.	After the shot has been executed he will pass the ball to the next player and repeat the same sequence. (The goal is to see how many lay-ups your team can execute in 2 minutes). 

The objective of this drill is to execute a lay-up in a fast sequence with proper footwork and precision. Progressions will be manipulated i.e., performing left hand lay-up and implementing a defender.

Progressions
1. Start by performing  a right hand lay-up.
2. Add a passive defender/ progress to aggressive defender.
3. Progress to a left hand lay-up.
4. Add a passive defender/ progress to aggressive defender.
5. Decrease or increase speed when driving to the basket depending on skill ability. 

Teaching Points
- Dribble with the appropriate hand when executing left or right handed lay-up.
- Move into space to elude defender when executing a lay-up
- Execute the appropriate foot work when executing the lay-up.

Organization
-lines will formed at the top of three line.
- There will 5 students in each line occupying 6 hoops.
