Management Suggestions

1) Equipment: rattle or other percussion instrument.

2) Teaching Space: gym space or other large area such as the classroom where students can move safely within boundaries.

  3) Support materials: story book, In the Haunted House.  Read prior to dance class to develop action word vocabulary and imagery.

  4) Grouping: partner sets were used during this dance, students were assigned partners by the teacher utilizing a classroom management tool already established.

  5) Pacing: students needed more time to refine and define personal space.  Students needed to perform different actions in personal space as well as moving around in the space to really utilize open "free" space provided.

  6)  Cues: students had to listen to change in beat to distinguish movement change.  The use of "and...freeze or and...go" was used to start and stop a movement.
