Catch & Toss

Introductory Activity
Purpose
This game is an introductory activity designed to refresh student memory of what happened in the previous lesson and improve their tactical awareness.  The tossing technique is designed to simulate a forearm pass, but the emphasis is on the tactical and not specific motor skills.

Description
In partners, students pass back and forth over the net attempting to score points. The ball is tossed underhand after it is caught students must touch the ball to the ground before passing it back.
Aim:
Score points by forcing opponents to be unable return a pass.
Rules
1.    Ball must be tossed underhand
2.    Ball must be touched to ground before being returned
3.    Score one point if ball bounces on opponents side or their return is unsuccessful
 
Organization
This task can be demonstrated by the teacher against any student.  Students will then be assigned partners and move to a space on the net, choosing their own boundaries for play.

Why is it important to touch the ball to the ground? Similar to forearm pass, forces you to get low which gives you power and control.
