Crossover

Culminating Activity

Purpose
This drill emphasizes ball control and height for time as players are not playing competitively but attempting to maintain multiple consecutive passes.  This drill causes students to be aware of their space prepare to receive the ball as they are moving towards it, due to the continual movement involved in the drill.

    On-the-ball skills
        Sending (toss, forearm, overhead)
        Receiving (catch, forearm, overhead)

    Off-the-ball movements
        Base
        Forward and backward movement
        Side step
        Adjust
Aim:
To make successful passes to the person across from you.
Rules
1.    Passer must contact the ball with either forearm or overhead pass
2.    Ball is tossed to passer
3.    After each pass, the passers switch places

Organization
This task can be introduced by having students do a demonstration for their peers.  Using the partners from the modified line game, have one pair designate themselves as passers and the other pair as tossers.  Ensure that each role is clearly understood:
Tossers: Do not move, toss ball to person opposite them.
Passers: Receive the ball from the tosser with a forearm or overhead pass, switch laterally to face the other tosser.

Possible Modifications
Have tossers also switch positions after having tossed.
Have students count number of consecutive successful crossovers - compare at end of time limit.
Blow a whistle - each time whistle blows tossers toss regardless of position of passer.
Tossers can use forearm or overhead pass.
