BLOCK PLAN - Four lesson Soccer unit

The block plan is an outline of a potential progression for the unit.  Depending on the response of students this progression could be adapted.

Lesson 1
Tactical Problem
MAINTAINING POSSESSION OF THE BALL
Lesson focus: Basic skills
Skill objective: TSWBAT effectively maintain possession of ball by passing and dribbling
Introductory task/game
Skill/Concept development tasks/games
    • PASSING DEMO- using students to demo
    - face direction you are passing
    - non kicking foot next to ball
    -inside of foot contacts ball - passing at target(cone) as progression
    - vary distance of target for complexity
    - play to 10---switch partners
Culminating Game:  		Lesson 2
Tactical Problem
CREATING SPACE IN ATTACK
Lesson focus: Accurate Passing technique, quick movement and communication
Skill objective:  TSWBAT pass to teammates effectively using the open space and communication
Introductory task/game
  • ATTACK AND PROTECT
  • students must protect their own ball in a given area while attempting to disturb other player's ball handling
Skill/Concept development tasks/games
PASSING DEMO (REVIEW)-using students to demo
-face direction you are passing
-non kicking foot next to ball
-inside of foot contacts ball

  • Culminating Game: FOUR GOAL SOCCER
  • teams can score on any of four goals

    Tactical Problem
    RESARTING PLAY USING THROW INS

    Lesson focus: technique of throw ins
    Skill objective: TSWBAT use proper technique when utilizing the throw in

    Introductory task/game
     OCTOPUS: students must get from one area of land across space to another area without getting caught. Progress to dribbling ball and not getting tagged

    Skill/Concept development tasks/games

    Culminating Game: Four goal game of soccer

    • incorporate 2 balls into game to maximize game play
    		 Lesson 4
    Tactical Problem
     ATTACKING / DEFENDING THE GOAL
    Lesson focus: Shooting / Player positioning and Goal keeping
    Skill objective: TSWBAT position themselves appropriately as a goal keeper or a shooter in order to attack the opposing team or defend their own side in a game situation 
    Introductory task/game
  •  FOUR CORNER CAPTURE THE FLAG
    • students must invade the opposing three teams in order to capture all of their soccer balls while defending their own territory
    Skill/Concept development tasks/games
    Culminating Game: FOUR GOAL SOCCER
      • students must score on any net but their own and communicate with teammates in total chaos
      • same as above game but add four teams with one goal each playing all at once (different colour pinnies
      • Bench team can sub on when a team gets scored on
