Continuous Passing

This task involves students passing continuously to themselves using the overhead or forearm pass.  The skill will be introduced based on its basic skill phases and Paul Smith’s cues of “feet, head, hands, extension” (2006). Designing this task based on the Practice style of teaching (Mosston, 1992) allows students to have a lot of ball contacts and also begin to explore different ways to modify the movement for improved control and performance.  One of the major tactics used in this task is height for time, which is a key component of this unit.

Progressions:
1.    Pass it to yourself repeatedly
2.    Pass it to yourself and clap once
3.    Pass it to yourself and see how many claps you get.
4.    Pass it to yourself and spin 360.
5.    Pass it to yourself and sit down.

Introductory Activity
After students have done this have them work on passing with a partner.  Emphasize making controlled passes and using the material learned during the previous task.
