Forearm Pass

After the forearm pass has been introduced in the castle game, ask students what they found successful.  Do a demonstration highlighting the points they emphasized and they key points of the forearm pass:

Platform, knees bent, don’t swing arms, power from legs.

The skill breakdown for the forearm pass shows specific instructional points, but the main areas need to be emphasized prior to more advanced refinements.

This technique of whole - part - whole is one way of improving skill specific student learning by allowing students to first use the skill in a game specific context, giving them a more tactical understanding of it’s use (Smith, 2006).  The skill can then be broken down into more technical aspects before students continue using it in game play.
