Passing

Purpose
In partners, students will forearm pass back and forth, attempting to make controlled and accurate passes to their partner.  This drill improves ball control and gives students an opportunity to practice the skill on its own before progressing to a more tactical environment.  This drill also allows for a lot of variation within a classroom so students at lower abilities can be working with just one partner using the forearm pass and students of higher abilities can have multiple ball contacts and progress to game play.

Concept & Skill Development
Aim of the Game:
Continuous forearm passing between two students.
Rules
1.    Ball must be contacted using only forearm pass or catch & pass
2.    Ball must be passed into opponents boundary area
3.    Use underhand toss to start / restart play

Organization
Allow students to set their own boundaries but help them to modify for success.  Students should begin passing without the net and then progress to passing over the net.

Possible Modifications
1.    One partner tosses the ball, other partner must complete __ accurate passes
2.    Partners pass back and forth, one contact each
3.    Partners pass back and forth, each making 2 or 3 contacts before passing
Other modifications could include size of playing area and use of the net.

Colton’s Caution
In the video above we progress through several stages of the game very rapidly but ensure that your students are always playing at a level appropriate to their ability.
