Section 2.1 Intro to Vector Fields

All around us in natures are something called Vector Fields, and these are the fundamental objects we will study in Vector Calculus. As an example at any point in space, there is little arrow that describes how an object would move under the force of gravity. In the future, we will then take a path (think line integrals!!) through some vector field.
Learning Objectives:
  1. Use the terminology and notation of Vector Fields
  2. Sketch a Vector Field by hand
  3. Sketch a Vector Field with technology.

1.

Can you think of a couple examples of vector fields in the world beyond what I gave?

2.

You can plot vector fields with these GeoGebra applets. You can bookmark these URLS if you like, and for now I challenge you to find the coolest plot you can at the following links: 2D plotter 1  and 3D plotter 2
